DAYTIME ACTIVITIES

From parties on the beach, to taking tours of the varied natural landscape to racing cars at Homestead Speedway there are tons of things to do to fill your day. South Beach has great companies that rent out jet skis, canoes/kayaks and other water toys. There are amusement parks, zoos, aquariums, tours of the Everglades, and several professional sports team in Miami. Look in the newspaper or pick up some tourists brochures for coupons and deals on great attractions. Of course there’s always the drunken parties on the beach with lots of skin, sand and music!

THE NIGHTLIFE

South Beach is known for its hot nightlife scene. From clubs and bars to comedy clubs and ultra exclusive VIP music scenes there is something for everyone. Most of South Beach and Miami turns into a 21+ venue after 10 pm but there are a few hangout such as outdoor dance clubs with live music that cater to the 18-20 crowd. .

DRESS CODE

Bikini and a tan. Most establishments require shoes and a shirt but many beachside bars and patio restaurants forgo even those requirements. The clubs all have dress codes at night and are strictly enforced. It is not a topless beach so if you desire to bare it all you need to find somewhere else.

THE WEATHER

Miami is the city of sun. The weather is perfect here all year round but especially during spring break. It’s usually in the low to mid 80s F and the water is in the high 70s F to low 80s F. The only thing that may put a hamper on things is if a chance hurricane decides to roll on by and you may get a bit of a breeze.

It is part of the United States so all U.S. citizens are welcome. No passport required

TRANSPORTATION

There are taxis everywhere as well as rental cars if you fly in. There is also the bus system that works the entire county, the Metrorail, an elevated rail system that serves twenty-one miles of downtown Miami and surrounding areas, and Metromovers, individual motorized cars that run on a four and a half mile elevated loop through downtown Miami. .

MONEY

The U.S. dollar and coin is accepted everywhere. Most restaurants, hotels and shops will accept credit cards, namely Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Travelerís checks and money orders/cashierís checks can be used at some facilities or exchanged at banks.

ELECTRICITY

The typical set up in the U.S.A. and Canada: 110 Volts, 60 cycles, A.C.

TIME ZONE

South Beach Miami is located in the Eastern Time Zone and follows EST.

TIPPING

Most people tip around 15% on restaurants and bar tabs, $2 (U.S.) per person for bellboys, and $2 (U.S.) per room/per night for maids. On large parties of eight or more, most restaurants will include a tip of 18% in the bill for you.

DINING AND DRINKING

South Beach Spring Break offers a wide variety of restaurants and bars to choose from all along the beach and throughout the town. The area is well known for its Latin and Cuban food as well as its Seafood restaurants. Hours vary from place to place but you can find something open from 6 am for breakfast the wee hours of morning. Many bars stay open to 2 am. The legal drinking age is 21. . .

ABOUT THE WATER

The water is perfectly safe to drink in all restaurants, hotels and public drinking fountains. The ocean water is safe to go in and drink although it is very salty.
